Snax’s transfer to G2

The new G2 captain was found in just one day. Snax, who previously played for GamerLegion, returns to the top level. This is a highly controversial transfer that raises many questions among analysts and the community. Let's break down the pros and cons.

Pro: Better Stats than HooXi

Snax's rating for 2024 is 1.01, compared to HooXi's 0.89. The players have almost the same number of maps played. Yes, HooXi has played many more matches in major tournaments, but even there, Snax performs better: 0.98 on 18 maps compared to 0.88 on 65 maps. The Polish player also leads in kills per round and additional metrics like KAST and Impact.

HooXi is among the three worst players in major tournaments in 2024, with only Gla1ve and Snappi performing worse. Even Stewie2k, who played as a substitute for one tournament, did better with a 0.88 rating. Such a weak individual captain hardly fits G2's style with three top riflers and m0NESY. If Snax maintains his current rating in G2, he will definitely strengthen the team.

Con: Snax is 31 Years Old

Snax is two years older than HooXi—he turns 31 on July 5. First, at this age, a decline in stats is inevitable, so Janusz could quickly drop to HooXi's level or lower. Second, G2 does not follow the general trend of rejuvenating the roster: they have young m0NESY and MalbsMd, followed by a huge gap to the Kovacs and Janusz.

Pro: Coach and Captain Duo

The connection between the coach and the captain is crucial in building any team. Here, Taz and Snax are the perfect combination. The players have played many matches together in Virtus.pro and surely have synergy. Even analysts speculated that Snax joined G2 at Taz's invitation.

There was a conflict between the players—Snax initiated Taz's kick from VP in 2018. But they reconciled in 2022, and the six-year-old grudge is surely in the past. Taz was once Snax's captain, and Janusz started calling after Viktor's departure. It seems a duo is forming where the coach and captain will complement each other perfectly.

Con: Snax Might Not Mesh with m0NESY

Under Aleksib, m0NESY was an ordinary Tier-1 sniper, but under HooXi, he emerged as a top player unmatched in the world. Scout Rufire worries about Ilya's decline under Snax: "Who cares that he's 30. The main thing is that he doesn't break m0NESY with his structure, because under HooXi, there was the best setup, while Aleksib and Nexa used him poorly."

Pro: Snax is an Experienced Captain

Even with a not-so-strong GamerLegion roster, Snax showed decent results. At IEM Katowice, the team made it through the play-in and secured one win in the main stage. The club finished second in the last-chance qualifier for the major. Forgetting about the overperformance in Paris last year, Snax helped the players establish themselves at a new level.

In the end, being in the top 20 for almost a year with such a roster is quite an achievement, and Snax has earned the right to try himself as a captain at the top level.

In CS, there's a strange concept called "experience." In Snax's case, it can be easily measured. Janusz has played more maps than anyone else in history—exactly 2500. He is second in the world for the number of clutches won and fourth in entries.

Snax is an extremely experienced player who can teach both another G2 newcomer, MalbsMd, and m0NESY. Together, they have only 1400 maps—1000 less than Snax alone. Throughout his career, he has played many Tier-1 tournaments, and he can pass on this experience to the young players—something HooXi didn't have the opportunity to do.

Con: Snax Has No Wins

The main way to assess a captain's success is by tournament victories. Throughout his captaincy career, Snax hasn't had a single achievement at least at Tier-2 level. On one hand, he kept GamerLegion in the top 20 for a long time. On the other, he leaves a top-30 team, which it last was in the spring.

Summary:

The next tournament for the updated CS2 G2 Esports team will be the Esports World Cup 2024 for. The championship will take place from July 17th to 21st in Riyadh. Fifteen teams will compete for a prize pool of one million dollars.
