Choosing the right character specifically for you is an important aspect of Deadlock. The game has inherited traditions of MOBAs such as Dota 2, and hero shooters like Team Fortress 2. Your very personality should shine through your character. And your success in this game depends on how their abilities suit your playstyle. It is definitely a good idea to check out all Deadlock characters and figure out who is best for you.

In this article, we go through Deadlock Heroes and explain what it’s like to play them. A general tip would be to select someone you like at first sight and then experiment with them in the game. If the Hero clicks for you, stick to them for a while to develop a better understanding of the abilities, and build muscle memory for combos. Don’t hesitate to switch to someone else if you feel like it. After some time, your preferences in the game may change, so your character could change too.

It is crucial to have a few active Heroes in Deadlock! Some will be banned at the start of your matches, so you need an alternative to still shine brightly with your skills and experience. Experiments with new Hero archetypes and roles may show you some new aspects of the game or even your fresh personal strengths.

  • How many characters are in Deadlock?

While the game is still in beta, Deadlock features 26 characters: they are called Heroes, which is a kind of reference to Dota 2 by the same developer, Valve.

Abrams

Abrams in Deadlock
  • Role: Tank
  • Personality: Abrams is a skilled detective, able to solve any difficult case. He rushes into trouble and faces challenges in life.
  • Impact: As a Deadlock Hero, Abrams should be in the frontline, initiate fights, take the damage, and let his teammates move farther through the lanes.

If you want a tanky character to start battles, deal a lot of damage, and push your team closer to victory, Abrams is a pretty good choice for you. Of all the characters in Deadlock, he is one of the best to bully your opponents and still be able to flee to safety. Abrams battles at a close range: his Q punch is extremely effective, and his weapon is a shotgun.

Abilities of Abrams in Deadlock

  • Siphon Life—Abram drains health from nearby opponents.
  • Shoulder Charge—The Hero dashes to collide with opponents, drag them, and deal damage. Hitting a wall applies Stun. Players can change the direction slightly.
  • Passive: Infernal Resilience—This passive ability of Deadlock Abrams allows the character to regenerate some of the damage taken. Health regeneration takes time.
  • Seismic Impact—With his Ultimate, Abrams jumps into a specified area to damage and stun opponents there.

Bebop

Bebop in Deadlock
  • Role: Initiator
  • Personality: He is a robot, created from junk by a widow. For a while Bebop and the woman had a nice time together, playing jazz at nights and working at the junkyard during the day. Now, Bebop is involved in a dangerous business to pay for medicine for his creator.
  • Impact: This Deadlock character battles at close range. Bebop has a hook to drag opponents closer and initiate fights. The same ability works for allies to bring them closer to opponents and dragged to safety.

Deadlock Bebop should be on the front line of his lane. Start battles with him, and let your teammates seal the deal. The W ability is super effective to eliminate opponents one by one. It works effectively in combos: 3 -> 1 -> 2. The uppercut covers a big area, and it’s the main damage dealer for Bebop.

Abilities of Deadlock Bebop

  • Exploding Uppercut—The attack affects opponents around Bebop. It damages and pushes them back.
  • Sticky Bomb—A bomb is attached to an opponent. The explosion happens after a delay.
  • Hook—Bebop drags an opponent or a teammate closer. The action can be canceled with another pressing of the ability button.
  • Hyper Beam—It’s a powerful laser beam that damages opponents and slows them down.

Calico

Calico in Deadlock
  • Role: Sniper carry
  • Personality: This girl is an assassin who kills for money. She used to clear the world of dangerous monsters, but that was not as profitable.
  • Impact: In Deadlock, Calico is effective as the second line of your offense. She is perfect to attack from the backs of close-range characters, participate in battles, and then run away quickly.

You absolutely need to keep a safe distance if you play Deadlock Calico. Her Gloom Bombs are perfect to support constant pressure. The Leaping Slash ability should be followed by activating the cat form to escape danger. Return to Shadows is a powerful ultimate attack and can turn Calico into a close-range invincible monster. You still should take care of safety after it. Calico is a very mobile Hero, and you should use this advantage.

Abilities of Calico

  • Gloom Bombs—Calico throws a few bombs at her opponents. The explosion happens slightly later. The damage from the second and following bombs is reduced.
  • Leaping Slash—It’s a dash forward to damage opponents around the landing point.
  • Ava—The Deadlock Hero Calico turns herself into her cat Ava. Her speed increases, and Calico is hidden on the minimap. It is impossible to attack in this state.
  • Return to Shadows—With this ability of Calico in Deadlock, the character takes an untargetable shadow form. She damages nearby opponents while being totally safe herself.

Dynamo

Dynamo in Deadlock
  • Role: Support
  • Personality: Dynamo was a scientist, but after a weird anomaly, he was transformed into a small star. The professor created a robot body so he could investigate his current condition and participate in Deadlock matches.
  • Impact: Play Dynamo on duo lanes and use him as a universal Deadlock character to initiate fights, deal big damage, and heal your teammates. This Hero may become a key factor in your team’s success, if you dynamically change your playstyle according to the in-game situation.

Dynamo is a Support with a wide purpose for this Deadlock role. Not only does he heal himself and his teammates, but he also effectively supports team fights with his high damage. The character has enough health to initiate battles, and his mobility is decent enough to then escape to safety and let others seal the deal. Deadlock Dynamo is quite universal, and you should have the same type of skills: Jack of all trades.

Abilities of Dynamo

  • Kinetic Pulse—A shockwave sends opponents up in the air, dealing damage and slowing them down, which includes fire rate and movement.
  • Quantum Entanglement—It’s a teleport ability of Deadlock Dynamo. The character appears at a short distance with his weapon reloaded. His fire rate increases for a short time. A slight reload bonus is applied to nearby teammates.
  • Rejuvenating Aurora—Dynamo heals himself and allies at a close range.
  • Singularity—The ultimate ability pulls opponents towards Dynamo and damages them significantly throughout the active period. In the end, the victims are pushed into the air.

Grey Talon

Grey Talon in Deadlock
  • Role: Sniper carry
  • Personality: This old man was a monster hunter in his youth. Then, Wesley Grey Talon retired for a peaceful family life. An awful accident changed this plan: his son’s entire family died in a fire. Grey Talon knows someone evil is behind this, and the man wants revenge.
  • Impact: He is a ranged Deadlock Hero. Grey Talon should keep a safe distance and damage opponents with a variety of his abilities.

Grey Talon goes above and beyond with his ranged playing style. He can harass opponents on the lanes without even coming close to the actual battles. Therefore, it is a good idea to play this Hero alongside close-range Deadlock characters.

Guided Owl is one of the best ultimates in the game! The bird deals a lot of damage, and you control its movement. Prioritizing this ability during a match should bring good results for your team.

Abilities of Grey Talon

  • Charged Shot—Grey Talon sends a powerful shot that penetrates and damages opponents. The ability is great against crowds.
  • Rain of Arrows—The Deadlock Hero jumps into the air, floats for a bit, and shoots multiple arrows.
  • Spirit Snare—The character sets a trap with big disadvantages for opponents, like reduced speed and inability to use items. Spirit Snare takes time to reach its peak potential. Grey Talon deals higher damage to opponents within the trap.
  • Guided Owl—You can send a spirit owl at your opponents. On impact, it stuns and damages.

Haze

Haze in Deadlock
  • Role: Carry
  • Personality: Haze is a special agent of a secret government organization. The main task is to check out the dreams of a target person. Haze can put anyone to sleep if it’s needed for the case.
  • Impact: Putting opponents to sleep is a great ability, and you should use it while playing Haze. The Hero can turn invisible, approach opponents, and disable them with the sleep effect. Then you can deal tons of damage with the help of your teammates, or run away to safety.

The most effective builds for Deadlock Haze are whirling around Sleep Dagger and Smoke Bomb. The character is a true assassin, who can sneak deep into opponents’ territory, harass them, and run away. In massive team fights, Haze can disable the most dangerous opponent to let allies attack them and earn the upper hand.

Good knowledge of the Deadlock map, perfect movement skills, and a great understanding of the roster are needed to be effective with Haze.

Abilities of Haze

  • Sleep Dagger—Haze throws a dagger to damage opponents. The ability applies a useful side-effect: a short sleep period for a victim.
  • Smoke Bomb—The ability allows the Deadlock character to become invisible and get a higher sprint speed. However, if opponents come very close, the invisibility effect disappears. Usual attacks disrupt invisibility.
  • Passive: Fixation—Each shot increases damage from following bullets.
  • Bullet Dance—Haze starts shooting the gun quickly, with perfect accuracy. In this state, the Deadlock Hero attacks the closest opponent.

Holliday

Holliday in Deadlock
  • Role: Split pusher
  • Personality: She is a Sheriff in a small town. For a while, Holliday’s life was totally peaceful, but then a series of cruel murders disrupted that peace. The Sheriff found the culprit: the traveling musician, The Troubadour. The guy used his mystic power to flee to New York. Holliday chases him to bring to justice.
  • Impact: Holliday should set up situations to deal big damage with her abilities. You can play her on solo lanes.

Some good skills are needed to be effective with Deadlock Holliday. The character is rather complicated, as her abilities are meant to be linked to each other for perfect setups. Also, Holliday requires shooting accuracy due to her passive ability being a headshot boost.

Abilities of Holliday

  • Powder Keg—Holliday throws a barrel. It takes time to unleash its power and be ready to explode. Various attacks and impacts initiate the detonation.
  • Bounce Pad—It’s an actual bounce pad that launches any hero. If Holliday uses it, she explodes on landing and damages nearby opponents.
  • Passive: Crackshot—The passive ability of Holliday boosts the effect of headshots: higher damage and decreased speed.
  • Spirit Lasso—The Deadlock Hero Holliday throws a lasso. If she catches an opponent, they are damaged, stunned, and dragged towards her.

Infernus

Infernus in Deadlock
  • Role: Split pusher
  • Personality: The guy comes from another dimension, and he brought fire magic to our world. He was wild as a teenager, but now Infernus has settled down. He uses destructive flames only as a final measure—or for fun.
  • Impact: The character doesn’t have explosive burst damage, so the effect of playing Infernus is stretched in time. His abilities to burn opponents are effective only if players can keep the Hero safe. This feature works great on duo lanes and in team fights. However, Infernus can also battle solo.

A perfect strategy with this Deadlock character is hit and run, so the post-effect will deal good damage while Infernus is already away. To do so, players should have good experience of the game, especially to play on solo lanes.

The over-time damage may be tricky for farming. You need to pay special attention to delivering final shots, otherwise your teammates may get all the resources in team fights and on duo lanes.

Abilities of Infernus

  • Catalyst—Infernus throws napalm. It increases the damage dealt by the Hero and decreases the movement speed of his victims.
  • Flame Dash—This Deadlock character rushes forward and leaves a fire trail. The flames burn the opponents. While in the dash, Infernus has extra protection.
  • Passive: Afterburn—Victims of Infernus receive damage over time due to the passive burning effect.
  • Concussive Combustion—Infernus turns himself into a bomb. The explosion damages and stuns opponents.

Ivy

Ivy in Deadlock
  • Role: Support
  • Personality: Unknown magic turned a stone gargoyle into a living being. Upon her awakening, Ivy saved two humans from evil attackers. She lived with them for many years to help them fight against the Mendoza Syndicate. Now, Ivy is ready to explore the vast and wonderful world beyond her district.
  • Impact: Ivy is one of those characters in Deadlock who work better in a link with allies. She is not the most effective healer, though. Stunning opponents is an important part of her playstyle: to let others deal big damage.

High mobility is a key feature for Ivy in Deadlock. You should use it at early stages to farm on lanes and gank opponents. On duo lanes, Ivy should connect to teammates and work together to reach a common goal.

It’s another rather complicated character. Get a good knowledge of the map to benefit from the mobility and learn other Heroes in Deadlock to understand how to support them in battles.

If you are a beginner in the game, start with simpler characters. Also, check out all you need to know about Deadlock in our dedicated article.

Abilities of Ivy

  • Kudzu Bomb—Vines appear within the activation area. They damage opponents and slow them down.
  • Watcher’s Covenant—Thanks to this ability, Ivy can connect to other Deadlock characters. The connection helps allies to share their bonus effects, including healing.
  • Stone Form—The Hero turns into a stone gargoyle and hits the ground. Opponents at a close distance get damaged and stunned. Ivy heals herself and a connected teammate.
  • Air Drop—This ultimate ability works nicely with allies. Ivy grabs another Hero, they float for a while, and then drop down. There is an explosion on the landing spot that damages and stuns opponents. Ivy can drop a bomb as well.

Kelvin

Kelvin in Deadlock
  • Role: Support
  • Personality: He was a brave adventurer who explored everything unknown. Kelvin went to the Arctic on an expedition, where reportedly an astral gate was hidden. After a year and a half, people found his dead body. Shockingly enough, Kelvin could move and talk when he was defrosted. He has no memories of what happened, but the guy wants to know who he has become.
  • Impact: This Deadlock character is a pretty straightforward support. Kelvin should care about healing his allies as much as dealing damage to opponents.

Playing Kelvin means combining quick mobility, good damage, and healing abilities. The Hero is effective in a variety of situations, starting from the early stages. The Ice Path opens vast opportunities in both defense and offense. It creates extra depth for the character. With more experience playing Kelvin and Deadlock in general, you will see new and unusual ways to use the floating trail of ice.

Abilities of Kelvin

  • Frost Grenade—Kelvin throws it to create a freezing cloud. Opponents within the active area are damaged, and their movement speed is decreased. Allies in this cloud have their health regenerated.
  • Ice Path—This ability creates a floating ice trail for Deadlock Heroes to use as a kind of bridge. Kelvin and his allies have a movement bonus on the trail.
  • Arctic Beam—The freezing beam damages opponents and slows them down.
  • Frozen Shelter—The ultimate of Kelvin in Deadlock creates a dome around the character. It’s a closed area, where allies are healed and opponents have decreased speed.

Lady Geist

Lady Geist in Deadlock
  • Role: Carry
  • Personality: A long time ago, Lady Geist was a beautiful girl. When her old years knocked on the door, she couldn’t resist the temptation to make a deal with a mysterious Oathkeeper: to drain life from others. Lady Geist looks young, but that’s an illusion.
  • Impact: Lady Geist has an effective selection of tools to quickly damage an opponent. This playstyle is risky, as she often sacrifices her health for this. In skilled hands, this Deadlock character is great at solo lanes.

When you play Lady Geist, you need to combine the damage dealing and health-restoring abilities. It’s quite a complicated task, and she is not a beginner-friendly character in Deadlock. However, the effect can be impressive.

The ultimate is especially devastating for opponents. Take almost everything out of Lady Geist to defeat one opponent, and then switch health bars with another, fresh one.

Abilities of Lady Geist

  • Essence Bomb—Lady Geist pays with her own health to launch a bomb and damage opponents around the landing area.
  • Life Drain—This Deadlock ability allows players to drain the health of their opponents. Lady Geist can use her attack while healing herself, but the movement speed is reduced.
  • Malice—The Hero shoots blood shards to slow opponents down and damage them. The following attacks with Malice increase this effect. Lady Geist creates these projectiles with her blood, so her health decreases.
  • Soul Exchange—Thanks to the ultimate ability of Deadlock Lady Geist, you can switch her health bar to one of her opponents.

Lash

Lash in Deadlock
  • Role: Split pusher
  • Personality: Little do we know about the past of this Deadlock Hero. People around him are pretty certain: Lash is an awful pain in the neck.
  • Impact: Lash enjoys fighting alone, and he does this perfectly. Take him to any lane or spot on Deadlock’s map to spread chaos among opponents.

You need to be proactively aggressive with this character. Engage with battles to deal a lot of damage. Beware of the consequences of your wrong moves! Lash is not a tanky character, so he should destroy opponents with great agility and prevent them from striking back.

Knowing this rushdown playstyle, you may prefer combining Lash with other Deadlock characters—for example, to heal him, cover his retreat, or help him finish the victims.

Abilities of Lash

  • Ground Strike—It’s a powerful stomp that damages opponents in front of Lash.
  • Grapple—Lash strikes this ability to pull himself toward opponents.
  • Flog—With whip strikes, the Deadlock Hero damages opponents and steals their health.
  • Death Slam—Lash connects his whip to an opponent, takes them into the air, and then slams on the ground. The victim and opponents around the landing spot are damaged and stunned.

McGinnis

McGinnis in Deadlock
  • Role: Support
  • Personality: The girl is super passionate about building mechanisms. She easily makes her ideas real, be that a magic machine to refine souls or just a turret to spread damage.
  • Impact: McGinnis works best on duo lanes. She can heal her allies and protect them. When the laning phase is over, this Deadlock Hero becomes a great support during team fights.

The playstyle of this character is whirling around supporting teammates. McGinnis creates a dangerous space for her opponents by placing automatic turrets. Then, she should focus on healing and protecting allies with her wall.

The ultimate of Deadlock McGinnis can deal big damage. You need to feel the best moments for using it due to the long cooldown.

Abilities of McGinnis

  • Mini Turret—The character places a mini turret to automatically shoot opponents.
  • Medicinal Specter—The ability creates a spirit that heals allies.
  • Spectral Wall—A wall appears on the Deadlock map. It’s a useful ability to cut support from specific units or protect allies. When McGinnis casts her Spectral Wall, she damages opponents as a side effect.
  • Heavy Barrage—You should select an area where McGinnis shoots her rockets. The attack deals mass damage.

Mirage

Mirage in Deadlock
  • Role: Split pusher / Support
  • Personality: The guy is a djinni’s bodyguard. Mirage helps the mystic creature be safe when it’s inside its vessel. This task requires being very responsible, and the character certainly has this quality.
  • Impact: Mirage has tricky abilities that may work better in a link with a teammate. However, you can also take him to solo lanes and deal big damage. His crowd control powers are impressive.

Like with many Deadlock characters, you can set a role for Mirage via his build and your personal playstyle. He can deal big damage with his decent basic attack and his Tornado form. Fire Scarabs work at a distance, helping others finish their victims. Revealing opponents on the mini-map is super helpful for the entire team. The teleport ability makes Mirage a great roaming support.

If you are ready to jump into Deadlock and play Mirage right now, check out how to get your invite.

Abilities of Mirage

  • Fire Scarabs—This ability allows Deadlock Mirage to spread scarabs over the map. They steal health and reduce the bullet defense of the affected opponents.
  • Tornado—Mirage transforms into a damaging tornado. He moves forward and pushes opponents into the air.
  • Djinn’s Mark—Shots by Mirage apply a special effect on the victims. It’s a multiplier that damages and reveals opponents on the mini-map after reaching the max.
  • Traveler—You can select any Deadlock Hero on the mini-map, allies or opponents, and send Mirage to that spot. The character gets a high movement speed and fire range on landing.

Mo & Krill

Mo & Krill in Deadlock
  • Role: Initiator / Carry
  • Personality: These two work underground: in different meanings. They are part of an illegal organization that focuses on trades in underground tunnels. Mo & Krill appear when troubles occur: they force order and respect within this market.
  • Impact: Big damage and high health are two aspects of this character, which is quite in tune with the very appearance of Mo & Krill.

We have two people as one character with Mo & Krill in Deadlock. One is big and tanky, and he makes his way through hordes of opponents. The other is a skinny damage-dealer who rides his partner. Your playstyle with this Hero should combine both archetypes.

Mo & Krill are effective fighters, who should be on the frontline of events. They may struggle at a big distance, so some support from other characters in Deadlock is never excessive.

Abilities of Mo & Krill

  • Scorn—This ability affects opponents at close range. Your Deadlock Heroes deal damage and heal themselves.
  • Burrow—Mo & Krill go underground and gain extra movement speed with additional protection. When they appear on the surface, they damage opponents and slow them down.
  • Sand Blast—It’s a sand shot that damages opponents and takes their weapons away.
  • Combo—It’s a damage-dealing ultimate ability that also stuns opponents. Mo & Krill get the max health if they kill their victims with Combo.

Paradox

Paradox in Deadlock
  • Role: Split pusher / Carry
  • Personality: This being is part of a mysterious organization. Every member can control time, and they use this ability to steal precious artifacts.
  • Impact: During the lane phase, Paradox should focus on crowd control. Later in a match, the Hero becomes a great power for eliminating individual opponents.

Paradox is a pretty unique character thanks to her time control abilities. Time Wall and Pulse Grenade create conditions for her battles on Deadlock lanes. Kinetic Carbine is the most effective at later stages when you increase Paradox’s movement speed with items. The ultimate ability is brilliant for team fights: you pull an opponent closer to your allies and they eliminate the victim super quickly.

Abilities of Paradox

  • Pulse Grenade—The grenade doesn’t explode but rather spreads damaging and slowing vibes. Each pulse adds a stacking effect.
  • Time Wall—The wall stops projectiles and bullets: time freezes for these objects. Opponents get reduced movement speed.
  • Kinetic Carbine—Paradox charges her weapon and then shoots an energy blast that deals extra damage and stops time for the victim. The Hero moves faster during charging.
  • Paradoxical Swap—The ultimate ability allows this Deadlock Hero to swap positions with an opponent. A side effect of Paradoxical Swap is life-stealing that works over time.

Pocket

Pocket in Deadlock
  • Role: Split pusher
  • Personality: They are the heir of a rich family. Someone wanted to assassinate Pocket, but they survived and fled. Now, Pocket hides from everyone and even hides their true identity.
  • Impact: Crowd control is the name of the game for Pocket in Deadlock. It’s especially effective during the laning phase. At the later stages, the character is better to play with support or around your team’s carry.

Pocket may struggle during direct duels, so you should keep a distance from assassins. Focus on notorious farming at the early stages and then participate in team fights as a damage amplifier.

High speed is a great feature of Pocket. It allows the character to rush closer to crowds of opponents, deal damage, and escape to safety. You need an excellent understanding of the Hero’s abilities and the game in general to succeed with Pocket.

Abilities of Pocket

  • Barrage—Pocket shoots a series of projectiles that damage and slow opponents down. The attack works better with each next projectile hitting one victim.
  • Flying Cloak—The cloak floats around, and you can teleport to its position.
  • Enchanter’s Satchel—Your Deadlock character hides in a suitcase to escape danger. When the ability is over, Pocket damages nearby opponents.
  • Affliction—The ability deals instant and over-time damage. It affects opponents within a specific area.

Seven

Seven in Deadlock
  • Role: Crowd control carry
  • Personality: The guy looked for immense power, and he obtained it. He denied all the limitations, and the government tried to eliminate Seven from existence. That did not work, but Seven became even mightier after those torments.
  • Impact: The character is a unique carry, as Seven totally focuses on crowd control. Seven is not suitable for an aggressive playstyle. You need to be careful with rushing forward and retreating, especially at early stages.

It is quite difficult to play Seven in Deadlock, as the character combines high crowd control damage and somewhat weak duel abilities. You need to farm properly before becoming reckless with this Hero.

A clever positioning and good movement speed are essential for Seven. Play the character with a Support for the best effect.

Abilities of Seven

  • Lightning Ball—The ball travels in a straight line and damages all units around.
  • Static Charge—When it is shot at an opponent, they become dangerous to nearby units. The charge damages and stuns Heroes around the initial target.
  • Power Surge—The ability adds a shock effect to the basic attack. It affects a direct target and opponents nearby.
  • Storm Cloud—Seven unleashes a damaging storm within a pretty big area.

Shiv

Shiv in Deadlock
  • Role: Duelist carry
  • Personality: This guy is a monster hunter. Shiv’s obscure criminal past makes him especially effective in slaughtering dangerous beasts.
  • Impact: You can play Deadlock Shiv in different positions. Focus on dealing damage from a safe distance and then strike with the most powerful blows.

Shiv is great at 1v1 duels, but he should use a clever strategy to succeed. First, apply the bleeding effect to decrease health. Then, activate his Slice and Dice with Killing Blow to seal the deal. Converting instant damage into the over-time type is quite helpful to survive in intense fights and then retreat for recovery.

However effective Shiv feels to be with the aggressive style, you must add reasonable caution to make him one of the best characters in Deadlock.

Abilities of Shiv

  • Serrated Knives—Shiv throws a knife, which damages victims and causes bleeding. Each following hit has a more powerful effect.
  • Slice and Dice—It’s a dash forward for your Deadlock character. Shiv attacks every unit he bumps into on his way.
  • Bloodletting—This ability allows Shiv to postpone the received damage, as it takes the over-time properties instead of instant.
  • Killing Blow—Shiv leaps forward, attacks an opponent, and kills them instantly if their health is below the killing limit. If the victim has more health, Shiv takes 200 points of damage. The ultimate applies rage stacks for Shiv, which enhances his other abilities.

Sinclair

Sinclair in Deadlock
  • Role: Split pusher
  • Personality: Henry was a magician who performed illusions on the stage. Sinclair worked with his wife Savannah, and they performed a mysterious act of bonding their souls. Once, a mistake killed both of them. They claimed each other and now struggle to separate their souls. Henry and Savannah should work together as The Magnificent Sinclair to become free ghosts.
  • Impact: The Magnificent Sinclair is all about dealing damage. He battles solo but uses his magic to create minion assistants. His style requires high playing skills, especially the use of the ultimate ability.

The character has a nice variety of effective attacks to pressure opponents and damage them significantly. Proper positioning is essential for Sinclair. You need to place assistants for defensive or offensive action and then play the Hero accordingly. Sinclair may struggle with a straightforwardly aggressive style. He is more about hit and run at proper moments.

Stealing the ultimate abilities of other Deadlock characters requires a good knowledge of the entire roster.

Abilities of Sinclair

  • Vexing Bolt—A magic bolt strikes opponents. The more it travels through space, the higher damage it deals.
  • Spectral Assistant—Sinclair creates minions. They attack whenever you use the weapon of this Deadlock character.
  • Rabbit Hex—Victims of this ability are transformed into rabbits. They move faster but take significantly higher damage. Most of their actions are blocked.
  • Audience Participation—You copy the ultimate ability of your opponent. Upon following uses, Sinclair activates the copied ultimate.

Vindicta

Vindicta in Deadlock
  • Role: Sniper
  • Personality: The woman was a witch and fell victim to an unfair trial. A mystical ritual summoned the spirit of Vindicta back. Now, she is ready for revenge, and any means are good for this.
  • Impact: This Deadlock character should keep a distance from her opponents, deal some initial damage, and then deliver the final killing blow. It’s a gameplan with Vindicta in a nutshell.

You need to avoid close-range combat when you play Vindicta in Deadlock. Therefore, it is a good idea to take her to duo lanes or roam around the map to harass opponents. On a solo lane, let minions go to the frontline and use structures and objects to hide behind them and shoot from a safe spot.

The ultimate ability of Deadlock Vindicta is one of the best in the game. Try to use it on opponents with less than 50% health, and it will most likely be a one-shot kill.

Abilities of Vindicta

  • Stake—It tethers opponents to a specific spot, which restricts their movement.
  • Flight—Vindicta flies around, and her weapon deals extra bonus damage.
  • Crow Familiar—The witch summons a minion: a crow. The bird attacks opponents, damages them, and leaves them bleeding, which drains health over time.
  • Assassinate—It’s a long-range sniper shot. If the victim has less than 50% health, the ability deals additional damage. When Vindicta kills an opponent with Assassinate, she receives souls to enhance her basic attacks and abilities.

Vyper

Vyper in Deadlock
  • Role: Assassin carry
  • Personality: She is okay with breaking the law, and Vyper does this a lot. The government tries to imprison the creature, but she easily escapes even the most protected jails. Criminal organizations are not happy with Vyper either, as she doesn’t follow their traditions.
  • Impact: Vyper combines tricky movement and high damage. She can slide through a rain of bullets, deal critical damage to opponents, leave them poisoned, and slide back to safety.

The green creature is one of the risky characters in Deadlock. Vyper strives on enemy territory, and you should know how to take her there and how to retreat. It is great for Vyper to have support from other Deadlock Heroes. Some can heal her after those raids, and others can finish her damage initiative with their killing strikes.

Vyper is a threat if you are good at movement and can take calculated risks.

Abilities of Vyper

  • Screwjab Dagger—The Hero throws a dagger that damages an opponent and slows them down.
  • Lethal Venom—The ability poisons its victims. The venom functions over time, and the effect gets stronger as the victim’s health decreases.
  • Passive: Slither—Vyper has exceptional sliding abilities. She slides at a long distance, and hills are not an obstacle for her. The passive ability also affects the sliding speed.
  • Petrifying Bola—You shoot an explosive projectile that slows down and damages opponents within the area of effect. Direct hits apply petrification, which protects the victim from further damage but also blocks all their actions.

Viscous

Viscous in Deadlock
  • Role: Support
  • Personality: Viscous is a sea anemone that managed to build a gooey body thanks to some psychic powers. This protected sea life from an extremely dangerous entity that entered our life via the astral gate, known as the Bermuda Triangle.
  • Impact: The playstyle with Viscous should include dealing damage to opponents and protecting allies. The Hero works best while linked with other Deadlock characters.

Viscous is a threat on lanes, as his abilities create a damaging environment. It becomes easier for his partners to deliver kills, so carries farm nicely alongside Viscous.

When it’s needed, the Hero can activate The Cube to recover health and be protected from super dangerous situations.

Abilities of Viscous

  • Splatter—Deadlock Viscous shoots goo at opponents. This substance damages on hit, and it also leaves puddles with the effect of slow movement.
  • The Cube—It is a healing and protective cube. Use it on allies or on the Hero himself. While inside, it is impossible to take any actions. The cube is made of goo, of course.
  • Puddle Punch—The ability summons a fist that punches opponents. Victims get light damage. They are sent into the air, and their movement speed is decreased.
  • Goo Ball—Viscous turns himself into a goo ball to roll around and attack opponents. The ball deals damage and stuns. While in this form, the Deadlock Hero receives extra protection from bullets and abilities.

Warden

Warden in Deadlock
  • Role: Assassin carry
  • Personality: Warden comes from a family of alchemists. Their main goal is to protect the world from supernatural powers. Warden’s parents did not take it seriously, but when a mystic apocalypse occurred, they did everything to train their son. Warden is a top-notch warrior who battles mysterious anomalies.
  • Impact: With this Hero, you should start a Deadlock match carefully to farm resources. In the mid and late stages, you can go nuts with Warden, harassing and killing opponents all over the map.

Like with other carries in Deadlock, it is quite important to be patient with Warden. Spend the laning phase killing minions and shooting opponents from a safe distance. A helpful hand from support characters would not be excessive. But after the mid-game power spike, be ready to take risky steps. Be in the frontline and take your team to victory.

Playing Warden in Deadlock requires a good understanding of how to accumulate resources in the beginning. Then, you need to demonstrate your skills to succeed with a risky game on the verge of overstepping.

Abilities of Warden

  • Alchemical Flask—Warden throws this flask, and it has a few effects. Victims are damaged, their movement speed decreases, and their basic attack loses effectiveness.
  • Willpower—Thanks to his dedication, the Deadlock Hero creates a protective shield and boosts his movement speed.
  • Binding Word—It’s a curse that forces opponents to move away from their initial position. Otherwise, they are damaged and immobilized.
  • Last Stand—After a short charging period, Warden starts spreading damaging waves. They also heal the Hero. The charging process applies extra protection for your Deadlock character.

Wraith

Wraith in Deadlock
  • Role: Sniper carry / Split pusher
  • Personality: Wraith works in the gambling business. She doesn’t care if that is legal or not. Anyone who interferes, pays with their life.
  • Impact: This character is excellent at 1v1 duels, and you should focus on this style throughout Deadlock matches with Wraith.

High mobility and excellent abilities make Wraith one of the best characters in Deadlock. You can play her on lanes to push your team closer to objectives. Or you can deliver kills all over the map to help teammates do their part.

The early game is somewhat difficult for Wraith due to her rather weak basic attack. However, the abilities compensate for this nicely. The crowd control options are limited for this Hero, and you should not risk close-range battles and facing many opponents at the same time.

Abilities of Wraith

  • Card Trick—The character summons cards by using the basic attack. With the Card Trick ability, the collected cards are shot to deal additional damage.
  • Project Mind—It’s a teleport ability. Wraith can instantly move to a selected spot within a limited area.
  • Full Auto—The fire rate of Wraith and Deadlock characters around her is increased upon activation of Full Auto.
  • Telekinesis—Wraith takes an opponent up into the air and then slams them on the ground. The victim remains damaged, slowed down, and disarmed.

Yamato

Yamato in Deadlock
  • Role: Split pusher
  • Personality: The real name of this girl is Kaori. She had to rule a crime syndicate in Japan, and her brother, Yamato, had to be a boss in the US. However, former allies attacked Kaori, and Yamato sacrificed his life to save his sister. Kaori fled to the United States, and people there got confused. They named her Yamato, and Kaori accepted that as her new name. It’s a sign of respect for her brave brother.
  • Impact: You can easily win duels with Yamato, which works perfectly even during the early laning phase. Later in the game, you should join your team in massive fights, so the abilities get additional damage from allies to actually kill opponents.

Yamato is a Japanese yakuza, and she battles like one. Send her to the close-range fight and let opponents feel the power of her sword.

Deal massive damage on your lane in the early game and support team fights later on. Don’t be afraid of facing opponents directly in the beginning, but be more careful when they have developed their strength.

Abilities of Yamato

  • Power Slash—After a short charging period, Yamato strikes with her sword to deal big damage. The Hero gets extra bullet protection while charging.
  • Flying Strike—It’s a grappling hook that helps Yamato quickly approach opponents. The ability damages and slows the victim down when Yamato reaches her destination.
  • Crimson Slash—Slashes with this ability damage opponents and heal Yamato.
  • Shadow Transformation—The Deadlock character takes her shadow form. Yamato gets bullet protection and extra speed. Her abilities are refreshed to use in battle. Kills in this state heal Yamato and prolong the duration of her ultimate.

The Best Deadlock Characters

The game is fresh, and the Deadlock meta is not formed yet. The developers will certainly unleash changes to the stats and abilities to make the balance perfect—and this will affect which characters are considered the best in Deadlock. Nerfs and buffs make their adjustments.

  • Seven, Calico, Wraith, Ivy, Vyper, Yamato, Dynamo, and Vyper are often named the best Deadlock Heroes.

However, your choice should depend on your personal style and the roles you like to play.

As the first-ever MOBA shooting game, it is a good idea to experiment with different characters to feel what works better for you. Deadlock has a nice selection of beginner-friendly Heroes. Grab them and enjoy the matches.

  • Abrams, Bebop, Dynamo, Grey Talon, Haze, Infernus, Kelvin, McGinnis, Seven, Vindicta, and Wraith are the best Deadlock characters if you’re only just starting your experience in the game. Play them to learn Deadlock and find your style.

Deadlock will grow even more with the introduction of its esports dimension. Before that happens, you can enjoy other competitive titles. Take a look at the CS2 esports calendar to not miss important events.
